Technology with Final Project

Technology played a key role in our groups project since our main objective of the project was to get people to join a Facebook page. Blackboard was a big help with communicating with each other during the process of the project. Communication was the key when putting this project together to make sure everyone was on the same page, whether it was emailing each other or calling/texting each other to let everyone know of an update or new idea. With incorporating Facebook with the main piece of our project we were able to reach college students not only at Clemson but kids across the nation and world. Without technology our project wouldn't have run as smooth and effective as would have if we didn't have a majority of the technology we used for the project.

Business Ethics

I think people in the workplace often overlook what is ethical and what is not. This can be a hard topic for some because what they think might be a right was to run a business or manage a practice might not be in other peoples eyes. I think that ethical problems pop up more than other problems in the workplace. I think these problems need to addressed by having regular seminars and workshops discussing ethical problems that have hurt big businesses and how you could manage to avoid these problems.

Miscommunication in the Workplace

With myself being a manager, communication his highly important when dealing with my other employees and my manager. During football season work is hectic with catering orders and the thousands of people coming in off the streets to eat before the games. During last football season we had to feed both Clemson and Maryland’s football team. Clemson fax their order in a few days before the game and Maryland called theirs on the day before the game. When we usually get a call in order whether it is one sandwich or a hundred sandwiches we write it down and save it the same way. When the call comes in you write it down and then you save it in the computer so you have two forms to make sure the order is right. When Maryland called their order in the person wrote their order down but did not save it in the computer. We ended up losing the sheet with the order on it but the person told one of the managers what it was that night that wasn't working the next day. Later on that evening I came in to get my check and the manager told me about the big order that Maryland had placed. The next day my manager could not get a hold of the person that took the order nor the manager that was working the night before to find out what the order consisted of. My manager called me and I told her what I thought it was. In the end we made 50 more subs than we were suppose to make for Maryland. So somewhere down the line of communicating with each other the number of subs grew. I guess it was better to make more than less, but we ended up feeding the police officers that were working the game that day. Needless to say our owner is kind of strict about how we take orders now especially with large catering orders.

Cover Letters

When looking through websites to help create and learn the design of a cover letter, I looked at many in which most were no help at all. This site by far was the best helping and giving vital information. The techniques they give to formatting a cover letter give you great ideas to make your letter stand out from others. I learned a lot form the "dont's" for cover letters and the worst things to put in a letter. The checklist they give also helps with the way you should design a cover letter for different companies. This site gives you enough advice to make sure your letter is ready for the company you are applying to and I will be using in future references.

Interview Mistakes

I agree that the top five mistakes that the article discusses are some of the worst mistakes that you can make. It seems as you get older that the interview process gets more stressful, because you usually have more on the line. At the beginning of every interview I am always really nervous and stumble over my words. As the interview proceeds to go on I find myself calming down and becoming more relaxed. I like to prepare myself for my interviews with extensive research on the company and try to know the inside and outs. I had a professor show a class one semester a pretty neat trick for college students about to graduate. She made between 50 and 60 note cards of the top interview questions and then write her response on the back. When she found some free time or she went to bed she would look over them and add changes if she felt necessary to a response. I feel that this is a great way to prepare for some of the dreaded interview questions that everyone hates. Everyone has their own way to prepare for certain items and people do what works the best for them.

Free Post

After taking in this year's Super Bowl it amazes me how much companies are willing to spend on promoting their product. As usual there were only 3 main companies which were Coca Cola, Pepsi, Anheuser Bush. Don't get me wrong I do enjoy all three of these companies and their crafty commercials, but I just see how a company can purchase a 30 second slot for close to 3 million dollars. Hopefully these companies will see a return in their investment especially during our current economic times.

In 10 years....

I ran through this scenario thousands of times, trying to add or leave certain items out. Everyone wants basically the same great job, great family, and great lifestyle, but we all differ in some way or another. In ten years from now I hope to my goal of my dream job. My dream job would be working for NASCAR in their advertising and promotions division. Ever since I was a young kid I have always wanted to be a part of NASCAR, mainly as a driver but that’s not going to happen. I would like to be living on Lake Norman right outside of Charlotte, North Carolina, which is home to many drivers and top executives of NASCAR. From my family point of view I would love to have a great wife and two to three kids. I want to be able to spend a lot of time with my family and be able to travel to many different countries. These are all my hope and dreams but hopefully they will able to be fulfilled.

It’s so important - Every day we wake up, we're creating our memory. We have to create the best ones we can, even if for one day. Find your goals and take them, one step at a time. Your happiness and control form responsibility. It takes work and you must do things yourself. I’ve learned that about myself. I once thought I was under the lion’s paw but when I decided to take on responsibility I became much more free.-Eddie Vedder (Pearl Jam)
